This is not a review of the actual hotel, as it seemed very nice, but myself, my husband and my mother went for afternoon tea yesterday 9 February 2019.To say we were disappointed is putting it mildly.....The waitress (who was also the receptionist from the front desk) sat us in, what appeared to be a lounge with absolutely no atmosphere in front of an open log fire, that was not lit, even although it was freezing outside, and was 1500hrs. Three of us at 2 coffee tables, two two seaters and 2 chairs, it felt like my husband was in another company. She then asked if we wanted tea or coffee, and we asked for tea, to which she replied breakfast tea okay for you....... no mention of the speciality teas mentioned on the website, although I did ask for Earl Gray, which they did have.The afternoon tea arrived:Cheap paper napkins, and nasty little white plates, which were the size of saucers. No white sugar, only brown cubes, but we did get some when we asked. Absolutely no finesse whatsoever....... Sandwiches all sizes and shapes.....different breads, and not too fresh. Fillings either barely there or overfilled (salmon in one was 3 slices thick). Certainly nothing special, and definitely could have done better myself.. Scones had totally collapsed, and were literally on their sides and flat, with a small scone shape at the top. Very tasty, but an absolute disgrace and very difficult to spread jam and cream (would have been nice to have butter as an alternative). How any establishment would think that it was okay to serve them is astonishing!!. Cakes were tiny little petit fours, nothing special and very bland.....bit like the ones you can buy in large boxes, frozen. Very disappointing, as I spent a lot of time looking at places to take Mum, and there are lots to choose from in Peebles, but this sounded really nice on the website ......wish I had stayed at home, as I couldve done a better job myself, and at 18.50 pp it wasnt the cheapest.Will not be back.......

Absolutely incredible. Well worth the money and just a fantastic looking building. Food is something special well done to the chef. Waiter was well informed and polite. Very professional.
